Community Outreach
As part of our priority of community engagement and mission, St. John's is engaged in a variety of missions programs effecting our local community and beyond. The church is a partner with Rockdale Christian Services (RCS) as they serve the community through helping those in need by distributing food to the hungry at their food pantry and also through funds raised selling items at the Heavenly Treasures shop in downtown Rockdale. The church supports RCS through food drives and clothing drives along with providing volunteers to staff their food pantry and store. The church also donates its monthly communion rail offering to support RCS.
The church is also actively involved in the fight against childhood cancer. Working with a local organization, Teaming Up to Fight Childhood Cancer, the church supports the annual Gold Out weekend in September where church members purchase and wear shirts for a weekend full of events including Sunday morning worship. This year, in addition to wearing shirts on Gold Out Sunday morning in worship, the church is collecting supplies for the Ronald McDonald House in Bryan-College Station, which provides housing and essential needs to families of children undergoing treatment.
The Church often sponsors events at the Marc Center and Rockdale Estates and Rehab for the residents. In 2025 the Church sponsored Valentine Parties for at both locations.
The Methodist Men of the Church also sponsor concession stands for Rockale ISD. In 2024 the group sponored several stands for both football and basketball.
In addition, the church sponsored and/or organized multiple community events in 2021 focused on youth and children in Rockdale. A summer kickoff pool party, a junior golf tournament, and a high school Homecoming dance were among the highlights.
